Florence Elizabeth McClain of Conyers, formerly of Atlanta, passed away Monday, October 31, 2011 at the age of 99. She moved to Morningside of Conyers to be near family members. She was happy at Morningside because she met many friends and had wonderful caregivers. Elizabeth was born in Pelham, GA on January 11, 1912. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, three sisters, one nephew and one niece. Elizabeth graduated from Piedmont Nursing School in Atlanta in 1942 and immediately joined the Army Nurse Corps during World War II. She was assigned to Okinawa, Frankfurt Germany and 5 bases in the U.S. She retired from the Army as a Major in 1962. After retiring from the Army, Elizabeth returned to Atlanta to live with family members. She continued to nurse many of them as their health failed. Elizabeth was a member of Peachtree Road United Methodist Church. She is survived by five nieces, twenty-two great-nieces and nephews, and thirty-three great-great-nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held in Pelham, GA on Saturday, November 5, 2011 with Rev. David C. Collins officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Morningside of Conyers, Activity Program, 1352 Wellbrook Circle, Conyers, GA 30012 or to a church of your choice.
