IN BRIEF: The elections board tabled filling the third, at-large member seat for further discussion at the next meeting. Some points of disagreement included whether or not to tape the interviews and the issue of special meetings versus regular meetings. The board has received seven applications for the third, at-large seat, which is currently filled by Cary Bond until the next at-large member is chosen.
- The elections board also voted to request the Board of Commissioners to use $18,000 in contingency funds to begin the purchase of a digital imaging system for voter records keeping.
- An attorney had been chosen to serve the elections board as legal counsel in conflict situations where the Board of Commissioners and the elections board faced each other in court. However, that attorney, Mike Nation, withdrew his name since any cases between the BOC and elections board might be heard in Rockdale County superior court, where his father, Judge Sidney Nation, serves. The elections board is still searching for conflict counsel.
- Elections Supervisor Cynthia Welch reported 2,916 voters were moved to the inactive status after not having any activity in the past year and not responding to postcards mailed to their address. She emphasized voters would still be able to vote but would have to update their voter registration information at the polls.
