EDITORIAL: Back to School

This time of year is a hopeful, active time. Teachers and educators are busy preparing for the return of classes. Students try on new outfits and new identities. And parents celebrate just having some peace and quiet in the house.

Drivers, with school back in session, remember to adjust how you drive. When a school bus stops to pick up or drop off a student, that means you must stop too. If this might cause you to be late, plan to leave earlier. And if the danger of possibly injuring – or God forbid even killing – a child doesn’t deter you, know this – school buses are equipped with video cameras nowadays. Lawbreakers will be caught.

And slow down in the school zones and watch for families and students crossing the roads.

There is no reason for a tragedy during what should be a happy time in the community.
