Ducks on parade
Rubber duck brings AMF Bowling Center top prize
IMG 0275

Ducks were the main wildlife sighting in the waters of Honey Creek on Thursday as about 1,200 were seen wading through the creek.

They were the rubber kind, however, as part of Rockdale County Senior Services' largest annual fundraiser.

Up for grabs, along with helping a good cause, were prizes such as a Smokey Mountain vacation package valued at $1,350, a seven-day stay at a Marriott Vacation Club resort, tickets to Dollywood, a digital camera, a 24-inch flat screen HDTV, gas cards, restaurant gift cards and more.

Each duck was numbered and sponsored for $10 each or three for $25. The first duck to cross the finish line was the grand prize winner, with following ducks winning the next sets of prizes.

AMF Bowling Center won the top prize - the vacation package - followed by Dorrell Richards as first runner up, Virginia Roney as second runner up and Naomi and Barry Beers as third runner up.

The rest of the ducks to place were those sponsored by Nancy Bloodworth, City of David Covenant Church, Marie Reed, Naomi and Barry Beers, Lola Mary Montalvo, Sandra Mingo Johnson, Lade Donlar Inc., Outback, Coco Bilz, Dora Zachery and Betty Linton.

Proceeds from Thursday's duck race go to fund programs such as Meals on Wheels, Grandparents Raising Grandchildren, transportation vouchers, and health and wellness programs.
