Parents and high school juniors and seniors interested in signing up for dual enrollment with local two-year colleges will want to attend upcoming meetings Oct. 29, starting 6 p.m. at the Rockdale Career Academ, and Oct. 18, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m., at Georgia Perimeter College Newton Campus.

RCPS will be offering dual enrollment opportunities for juniors and seniors through two institutions next year, Georgia Piedmont Technical College and Georgia Perimeter College.

Georgia Piedmont Technical College is having a mandatory parent information session for interested parents. Please plan to attend Wednesday, Oct. 29 in the Rockdale Career Academy auditorium. The session will begin at 6 pm. Sessions will include information about dual enrollment, testing options, academic courses and the Cosmetology, Welding, Firefighting and EMT programs that will be offered. Students will receive applications and will be able to sign up for testing. For more information about earning college credit through GPTC, contact your school counselor.

Georgia Perimeter College is having an open house for all interested students and parents on Saturday, October 18 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at 239 Cedar Lane, Covington, GA. For more information about earning college credit through GPC, contact your GPC dual enrollment coordinator, Jeff Meadors, at 770-278-1270.

Meadors said "I recommend GPC to students because our classes are highly transferrable within the USG, our courses give students the rigor required by HOPE 2015 and going forward, and our classes are kept small and taught by SACS accredited college teachers who value teaching over research. We give students a firm foundation in core classes and send many to UGA, GSU, GA Tech, Georgia College & State University, and University of North Georgia, as well as other locations. We have free tutoring in all subjects available for DE students who are challenged by the high school to college transition. Our science labs are state of the art, our campuses are safe, and we have innovative online options, including hybrid classes. We will offer English 1102 - Honors and Political Science 1101 Honors at RCA in the spring 2015 term on the RCA campus"
