Deputies help sweep Rockdale streets of felons

Rockdale's streets are cleared of a few more people with felony charges after Rockdale deputies participated in an Atlanta area sweep, "Operation Safe Streets."

The sweep, which ran April 6 to April 8, resulted in 17 felony warrants were cleared in Rockdale County. While arresting one suspect with an outstanding felony warrant, 11 firearms and a small amount of marijuana was located and seized from the suspect's residence. Additionally, 10 felony arrests and 18 misdemeanor arrests were made by deputies in the Uniform Patrol Division for various charges during the same time period.

The metro-Atlanta region effort consisted of 23 law enforcement agencies, including sheriff's offices, police departments, and the U.S. Marshals Service. The objective of Operation Safe Streets in Rockdale County was to find and arrest persons that had felony warrants that originated here, as well as those that originated out of other metro Atlanta agencies, but who resided within Rockdale County.

"This collaborative effort among participating agencies shows a commitment to making the streets of Rockdale County and metro Atlanta safer," said Captain Mike Ransom of the Warrant & Civil Division. "I would like to commend all of the deputies of the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office that participated in Operation Safe Streets for their hard work and dedication during this grueling 72-hour period."
