Crosstie project to close rail crossings temporarily

Railroad crossings in Conyers will be temporarily closed in the weeks ahead due to an upcoming crosstie replacement project by CSX and Benchmark Consulting.

Beginning Monday, Jan. 27 and weather permitting over the course of the next two weeks, crews will be performing maintenance at multiple railroad crossings starting at West Street in Covington and moving east to conclude at Rockbridge Road in Conyers.

Benchmark Consulting estimates the crosstie replacement will take approximately two to three days per railroad crossing to complete the work.

Detour signs will be posted when the railroad crossings in Conyers will be affected and motorists will be encouraged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.

Those with questions and concerns should contact the city’s Department of Public Works and Transportation at 770-785-6690.
