A patient was transported by helicopter after his truck crashed on Ga. Highway 212 near the Monastery of the Holy Spirit Thursday afternoon.
Shortly before 1 p.m., the male driver of a late-model Chevy pickup truck was heading south on Highway 212 when his truck left the roadway. The truck traveled into the woods about 75 feet before coming to a stop.
When firefighters and emergency medical personnel arrived, they were unable to access the driver immediately, according to spokesperson Michael Morris. However, once they reached the driver, a medical transport helicopter was called. The driver did not need to be cut out of the vehicle, however.
The Monastery of the Holy Spirit was used as a landing zone for the medical helicopter. The patient was reportedly transported to Atlanta Medical Center. The extent of his injuries are not known at the time.
Rockdale County Sheriff's Office investigators are still looking into why the truck left the roadway, according to Morris.
Around the same time, a call came in reporting a grass fire in the area. But when firefighters arrived, there was no fire found, according to Morris.
