Crash on 138 kills pedestrian with bicycle

UPDATE:  A pedestrian struck by a tractor trailer on Ga. Highway 138 Friday afternoon died from his injuries.

The accident occurred on Friday, around 2:20 p.m. on Ga. Highway 138 near South Main Street.

The man, believed to be in his 60s, was pushing a bicycle across Highway 138 when a tractor trailer traveling northbound struck him. 

The male pedestrian was seriously injured and medical personnel attempted CPR while en route to Rockdale Medical Center.

However, the pedestrian died a short time later from injuries sustained in the accident.

The name of the victim is not being released at this time, pending family notification.

The northbound lanes of Highway 138 were shut down during the accident investigation, but were reopened at approximately 3:30 p.m.

The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation.
