Covington Police are searching for a man who allegedly attempted to rob a customer at gunpoint at Don's Superette around 2 p.m. The victim was pumping gas at the service station. When he got into his vehicle to leave, a slender black male in his 20s, wearing a red shirt, blue jeans and a ball cap pulled low over his face, jumped into the passenger side of his vehicle and told the victim to drive, according to Capt. Ken Malcom. Malcom said the victim drove around the back of the store and attempted to wrestle the gun away from the would-be robber, instead, the vehicle went down a steep embankment, causing an accident. The suspect fled on foot, and was seen by witnesses running along the railroad tracks and into the woods near Rite-Aid. The suspect also reportedly spent some time inside the gas station, where he was caught on video, before exiting and approaching the victim. Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to contact the CPD at (770) 786-7605, or online at www.covingtonpolice.com. All tips can be given anonymously.
