Also among the local shooters are three members of the factory shooting team sponsored by Smyrna-based firearms maker Glock, and each will be defending their 2009 titles. Jessie Abbate of McDonough took the Women’s Limited division crown in 2009 while Randi Rogers of Marietta captured the Limited-10 title in 2009.
The USPSA Area 6 Championship is one of the largest regional competitions in the country and the first of the shooting season. The Area 6 region consists of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee, but shooters from 21 other states as well as Austria and Canada will compete.
The sport of Practical Shooting is a dynamic, action-oriented competitive shooting discipline incorporating skill, precision and speed shooting, all while on the move. During the match, competitors will navigate a series of obstacles laid out over 12 stages, or courses of fire, designed to simulate potential real-world scenarios. Shooters are scored on both speed and accuracy. Over 95,000 rounds will be fired downrange in the quest for the Open, Limited, Limited-10, Production, Revolver and Single Stack division titles.
