Interact Club students sponsored by the Conyers Rotary Club lit up the club's Wednesday celebration of National Interact Week by showcasing new service and events this year.

The Interact Club, a service club sponsored by Rotary, helps students develop qualities that prepares them for selective colleges and nurtures the importance of giving back to our communities. Interact Clubs exist at all three high schools in the county and Conyers Middle School established the first middle school level Interact Club in the county last year.

Many new community activities will be sponsored this year with interested students, ages 12-18, in areas of in Leadership, Community Service, Business Experience and Ethics.

Students are launching a host of new community local and international projects. One of the main projects is the Water Pasteurization Indicator (WAPI), which will be mass produced and shipped to Jamaica and other countries. Students will fundraise and donate hundreds of hours to improve lives. They are awaiting confirmation from the Jamaican Ministry of Health for mass distribution.

Diane Adoma, Interact Chair is working closely with advisors to select a rising senior nominee from each high school to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Camp in Tallulah Falls, Georgia in summer of 2015, Interact Scholarship, Rotary Youth Travel Exchange Program and much more.

Rockdale County High School students will also sponsor a talent show with a local radio station as a fundraiser for the WAPI project.

Interact students from all schools plan to volunteer with Hands Across Rockdale and the Cherry Blossom Festival.

Rockdale High School, Ken Tucker, Heritage High School, Christy Hodges and Conyers Middle School, Shawn Haughton has expressed their full support of upcoming activities.

"The students are very excited about the upcoming 2014-2015 activities and will be manufacturing the WAPIs for Jamaica and utilizing technology to collaborate on a worldwide global project with the Interact club of Spanish Town Jamaica," said Adoma. "We are always looking for ways to give back to the community and this year we will 'Light up the World.'"

The Interact club is part of an international Rotary organization that links local pupils with business professionals with a common interest in community service. Around the world, almost 250,000 students from 120 countries and 11,000 clubs are involved in the program. Our current Interact Clubs are Heritage High School; Rockdale High School and Conyers first newly formed charter club is at Conyers Middle School and is official."
