The Conyers Police Department will offer a free gun safety class for citizens on Thursday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. in City Council Chambers, on the second floor of the Conyers Police Department located at 1194 Scott Street.

Conyers Police Sgt. Jay Archer, who routinely conducts training for police officers, will be the instructor of the one hour class.

The class will focus on gun safety, issues related to gun control, self-defense questions and other matters related to Georgia law.

"There has been a great deal of discussion and debate about gun control since the tragic shootings in Aurora, Colorado and Newtown, Connecticut last year,” said Police Chief Gene Wilson. “We want to help facilitate discussion locally by sharing with the public what it means to be a responsible gun owner.”

Seating for the class is limited to 140 and those under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. For more information or to indicate you plan to attend, contact Sgt. Archer at jay.archer@conyersga.gov or call 770-483-6600.
