Conyers man killed in scooter-car collision

A Conyers man was killed when a car collided with the scooter he was riding early Thursday morning.

Around 4:30 a.m., Willie Raynard West was riding a scooter heading east on Old Covington Highway. A 2011 Nissan Versa also traveling east on Old Covington Highway struck the rear of a scooter.

Both vehicles ran off the north shoulder of the roadway, according to a Georgia State Patrol spokesperson.

The scooter operator, West, 46, died at the scene of the crash.

The Nissan struck several trees and overturned.

The driver of the Nissan, Careon Roberts, 22, of Snellville, reported a wrist injury. A Lawrenceville woman who was a passenger in the Nissan was uninjured.

Charges are pending. The GSP Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is conducting a follow up investigation.
