Conyers gears up for Fabulous Fourth Festival

The City of Conyers will be hosting "The Fabulous Fourth Festival" this year at the Georgia International Horse Park on Saturday, July 4. This is the sixth consecutive year that Conyers has offered this event and crowds are expected to be in the 15,000 range. People are encouraged to get to the park early to enjoy the events scheduled and to snag a good parking spot. Admission and parking are all free. Blankets and lawn chairs are allowed for the fireworks event that starts at dark, but coolers and pets are prohibited.

The gates will open at 5 p.m. and the festivities will last until 9:45 p.m. The event is presented this year by 104.7 The Fish and will take place at the Grand Prix Plaza within the horse park.

Attendees can expect many great attractions at this year’s festival such as arts and crafts booths, live entertainment and a patriotic program sponsored by the VFW saluting our local female veterans will begin at 7 p.m. BG Britt, Commanding General GA Army National Guard will be the Keynote Speaker for the patriotic program this year on the Honda of Conyers stage. Great food can be expected at this event. Papa Johns will be there with their pizza. One can also expect snow cones, barbecue, wings and "all the other fun festival foods people enjoy," said event coordinator Rebecca Hill.

Other great activities include an Ultimate Air Dog Show, performances by local bands Jesse Bock/Livin’ Easy and The Mike Rogers Band, the North Georgia Live Steamers will be there with a real steam engine for all to enjoy along with two great car shows. Local author Gene Burkett, J.D. will have a booth at the event. He will be there selling and signing his book. The festival will also be jam-packed with vendors selling all sorts of items and offering fun activities for children.

This year’s event is sponsored by Ingles, American Pest Control, Inc., the Veterans of Foreign Wars, National EMS, Honda of Conyers, AT&T, and the Rockdale/Newton Citizen.
