Conyers approves budget with no additional cuts

IN BRIEF: After going back to take a second look at various tax digest scenarios and identifying about $160,000 in cuts to put away for savings, the Conyers city council voted unanimously to approve the $13.18 million proposed budget for FY2012 as is without additional cuts this year. The budget will not require a tax rate increase.

The finance committee met on Tuesday to review what would happen to revenue if tax digests fell by 5 percent, 6 percent, and 7 percent. The budget had been created based on a 5 percent estimated drop in tax digest, although the city's digest had been projected to drop about 3 percent. Chief Financial Officer Isabel Rogers estimated about 40 percent of the city's revenue came from property taxes.
