Community celebrated by Democrats with black tie gala

 The Rockdale County Democratic Party is celebrating the community service in Rockdale on Saturday, April 24, 4 p.m. – 1 p.m. with a black tie gala and the who’s who in community service in Georgia. This year’s gala, One Community – One Goal, will be hosted at three locations in Olde Town Conyers and honor individuals and organizations for achievements in education, health and human services, business, government, and faith-based activities.

 "We are promoting the power of partnerships and teamwork to serve the community. And we will celebrate national, regional, state and local figures who are having a positive impact on communities," said RCDP Chairman Stanley Williams.

 Honorees include State Sen. Ronald Ramsey, Superior Court Judge Horace Johnson; Dr. Rogsbert Phillips, nationally renowned surgeon and CEO of Sisters by Choice; Dr. Earl Yarbrough, Sr., President of Savannah State University; and Margaret Freeman, founder of Hannah Angel Center.

 With a focus on partnerships in the community, the party also will honor the collaborative efforts of Rockdale County Chairman and CEO Richard Oden and Conyers Mayor Randy Mills; Rockdale Schools Public Schools Superintendent Samuel King and the Board of Education; and the United Rockdale Support.

 In addition, for the first time this year, the party will present scholarships to students from each of the county’s high schools.

 A VIP reception will be held at Borage Grill, which serves authentic Mediterranean cuisine, from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., followed by the education awards ceremony at Club 908 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Both facilities are on Commercial Street.

 The stellar celebration and awards ceremony will be hosted at Sharon’s Mansion restaurant on Railroad Street from 7:30 p.m. to 1 a.m.

 VIP tickets are $75 in advance and $100 at the door, and general admission tickets are $50 in advance and $75 at the door. Along with the purchase of a ticket, the RCDP is also asking for a donation of two new children’s books.
