As juniors and seniors approach college decision making, there are two events coming up that can help them with these choices.

On Thursday, Oct. 27, Rockdale County Public Schools will be hosting “College, Careers, and More” from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the evening at Rockdale Career Academy, 1064 Culpepper Drive, Conyers.

On Saturday Oct. 29, FreeCollegeHelp.org will be hosting their College Prep Day college fair at noon to 5 p.m. at Club 908, 908 Commercial Street, Conyers.

These events will offer opportunities for these high school students to gather information on colleges and are free and open to the public. There will be college representatives and financial aid advisors at both events, and each event will have different aspects taught for those who are new to the whole beyond-high school preparation.

April Fallon, the director of community and student support and organizer of the Oct. 27 RCPS College, Careers, and More Night said, “This event will provide our students and families with the opportunity to meet face-to-face with representatives from colleges, technical schools, and career institutions, and also obtain information about applying to college.”

Also at the Oct. 27 event, guest speaker Steven Crisp of Crisp College Advising will provide an insider’s view into how the entire process works. From application review to receiving financial aid, students and parents will learn all the information needed to apply for post-secondary institutions.

At the Oct. 29 event, there will be representatives from more than 14 colleges including: Tennessee State University, Clark Atlanta University, Columbus State University, Kennesaw State University, Clayton State University, Fort Valley State University, Voorhees College, Cutting Edge Beauty Institute, Georgia Perimeter College, Spellman College, and South Carolina State University and possibly Morehouse College, Nashville Auto Diesel College, and The University of West Georgia.

Deborah Anderson, coordinator for the FreeCollegeHelp.org event, said, “I feel that it is imperative that we assist our youth in moving forward for success.”
