Ten Conyers Middle students are competing as a team in today’s district-wide Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl, from 8-11 a.m. at the Rockdale Career Academy.

Participating teams are from elementary and middle schools and have read from a list of 20 Georgia Children’s Book Award books for the competition.

The Reading Bowl is in its 15th year, started by DeKalb County elementary school media specialist Helen Ruffin. To encourage reading, Ruffin created a competition game based on Georgia Children’s Book Award nominees.

This year’s CMS team includes Ryan Stokes, Grant Tomlinson, Tyla Harris, Barisien Mtuanwi, Baylee Moon, Emmanuel Faminu, Messiah Rand, Charmaine Pollydore, Jasmine Chackalayil (not pictured), and Bayleigh Smith (pictured separately).
