The candidates for the three Conyers city council seats up for election this year will run unopposed this fall.

The candidates that filed during the qualification period from Aug. 29 – Sept. 2, are: incumbent Vince Evans for District 2 Post 2, incumbent Gerald Hinesly for District 3, and election newcomer Dr. John Fountain for District 4.

Current District 4 councilman Marty Jones announced last week that, after being undecided for a number of months, he would not be running. Jones has been on the city council for 23 years and is also on the board for the Conyers-Rockdale Economic Development Council and the Conyers-Rockdale Chamber of Commerce.

Fountain, a dermatologist and Conyers native, previously cited his experience organizing a bank, being a small business owner, involvement with the Olympic venue, and his service in the community on many boards including the Downtown Development Authority as experiences that would be beneficial to being a city councilman.

Evans joined the city council in 2000 and Hinesley joined in 2002.
