IN BRIEF: The leader of a local Christian ministry was sentenced today by Rockdale County Superior Court David Irwin to five years and 10 months probation for a felony charge of stealing gasoline in a 2011 incident.

Sarah Yvonne Morton, leader of TGS Christian Ministries, was released from jail after serving 39 days. She was also fined $2,500.

Morton had been found guilty in her June trial by jury for theft and damage in one incident recorded on security camera video but was acquitted of charges from a second 2011 incident.

Her co-defendant and alleged ringleader, Robert James Curtis Jones, 36, who entered a guilty plea earlier in the year, will be sentenced Wednesday.

Morton and her family established TGS Christian Ministries and TGS Kidz located on Old Covington Highway.
