For the last quarter of a century the Covington/Conyers Choral Guild has delighted Rockdale and Newton residents with soaring holiday music.
This year is no exception as the non-profit group presents “A Holiday Concert 2011” featuring the Magnificat, composed by Giacomo Perti, on Thursday, Dec. 1 at 8 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Covington and Friday, Dec. 2 at 8 p.m. at the Rockdale Auditorium.
The group is presenting Magnificat for the first time at the concert. Tickets are $10, available from any Choral Guild member, online at www.choralguild.org or at the door.
"This is a beautiful piece of music," Publicity Director Carol Brown said. "It's going to be real pretty. And we've got a lot of offerings and interesting arrangements to traditional things people would recognize."
The group is led by Director Roger Waters and features 75 members of the community, ranging from high school age to 87-years old.
Waters, the minister of music at Salem Baptist Church in McDonough, has taught high school music and been a singer with Robert Shaw and the Atlanta Symphony Chorus.
The Covington/Conyers Choral Guild is a non-auditioned chorus that has performed at Carnegie Hall, The Biltmore House, and most recently at the American Cemetery in Normandy, France, London and Canterbury, England.
