The Covington Conyers Choral Guild brings you an evening of magic with the soaring sounds of Handel in "Handel with Care," their spring choral performance, May 13, 8p.m., at First Baptist of Covington, and May 14, 8 p.m. at the Rockdale Auditorium.
This year's concert features selections from G.F. Handel's "Messiah," Parts II and III, and selections from Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Phantom of the Opera."
Guild Director Roger Waters, who began the group 25 years ago, said he selected Parts II and III of the Messiah, which are less often heard than the more well known finale.
"I always try to educate the audience," said Waters, taking a break from an intense practice session. "I will generally pick works of master choral composers. But we will give something lighter at the end."
For this year's performance, he said he heard the Phantom himself might even make an appearance.
"These are some of the greatest folks you'll find anywhere," he said. He said he found the group to be dedicated, driven and the members make sacrifices to make the performances work.
Tickets are $10 each at the door, and doors open at 7 p.m. For more information, visit www.choralguild.org or call 770-482-9470
