Salem Theater brings the big city lights and Bob Fosse style to the stage with the musical "Chicago," running Jan. 17-18 and 24-25, 7 p.m., at Salem High School.

Choreographed by Patty McGuire and directed by Lenae Rose, the story takes place in Prohibition era Chicago and follows the trials and tribulations of celebrity murderesses as they go through the circus of media attention and the justice system. The director clarified that this production would be a family friendly performance, however, despite the musical's subject.

Roxie Hart, played by Jennifer Lee, kills her lover in a spat and is sent to jail where she meets the women of the Cook County jail. Vaudevillian and murderess Velma Kelly, played by Sabrina Wilson, is none too happy at having the spotlight taken away from her case.

The cast is rounded out with performances by Elisha Gordon (as Fred Casely), Jorge Castro (Sergeant Fogarty), Naheem Mitchell (Amos Hart), Lauren Parker (Liz), Daisharra Hayes (Annie), Martine Destin (June), Eileen Swetnam (Hunyak), Mecca Bryant (Mona),  Patricia Clark as the Matron of the cellbokc, and Austin Buchanan  as lawyer Billy Flynn.

Tickets purchased in advance are $5 for students/senior citizens and $7 for adults. Tickets purchased at the door are $6 for students/senior citizens and $7 for adults. Tickets can be purchased by emailing theatresalemgmail.com
