As the 29th annual Conyers Cherry Blossom Festival approaches, extra events offer fun throughout the entire month of March. Two new events added to the 2010 Conyers Cherry Blossom calendar are the East Atlanta Egg Drop and Play Scrabble for Charity.

The East Atlanta Egg Drop, presented by Discover Point Church, is an egg hunt like no other. From a helicopter, 30,000 plastic eggs will be dropped onto the steeplechase field at the Georgia International Horse Park. The event also offers prizes, inflatables, live bands, games and more. The East Atlanta Egg Drop is scheduled for March 20 at 2 p.m. Those interested in participating are encouraged to pre-register to avoid long lines at registration by visiting www.eggdropconyers.com.

Scrabble lovers of all levels can participate in the first Play Scrabble for Charity, presented by A Special Boutique, a clothing donation and distribution service in Conyers. The Scrabble tournament is open to individuals and groups of all ages.

"Companies, organizations or clubs who send representatives to play will be publicly announced during the event," explained Jocelyn Green, executive director of A Special Boutique. "Players may pay a registration fee or obtain sponsors to participate in the tournament. Proceeds will be used for scholarships for a Certified Nursing Assistant Program to help families in need get training for re-entry into the workforce."

Spectators are welcome at $5 per person. The winner of the tournament will be crowned king or queen of the Cherry Blossom Scrabble Tournament. For more information call A Special Boutique at (404) 547-6950 or visit www.aspecialboutique.org.

Other auxiliary events have been a part of the festival for many years including the Conyers Cherry Blossom Pageant that took place on February 27 at the Rockdale Auditorium. The Conyers Cherry Blossom Festival Croquet Tournament, presented by the Heartland Woman’s Club, will take place on March 20 at Legion Field in Covington.
