The Conyers-Rockdale Chamber of Commerce will soon have a new home on Green Street.
The small-business advocate recently purchased the approximately 8,000 square foot, two-story building at 936 Green Street for about $300,000 from a California-based investment firm, according to former Chamber president Lorraine Harrison. The building had initially been appraised at around $500,000.
The Conyers-Rockdale Economic Development Council and United Way of Rockdale will be renting space from the Chamber at the new office. A hair salon currently in the lower level will remain as a tenant.
The second floor is unfinished and the Chamber board is looking at layout options. The Chamber hopes to move in by the end of the second quarter, said Harrison.
Currently, it is housed in a much smaller building on the city of Conyers complex on Scott Street. It is still being determined as to what city department would occupy the space once the Chamber leaves, said Conyers Chief Operating Officer David Spann.
Claire Cline, a United Way of Greater Atlanta Regional Director whose responsibilities are in Rockdale, Henry and Butts counties, said the exact details of United Way's space in the building are up in the air but she was excited to be moving in with the Chamber.
"United Way in Rockdale County was born out of the Chamber, and now we're going back home," she said.
