A woman accidentally drove her car into the front of a pool service store in Covington Monday afternoon, breaking a window and knocking down the railing in front of the store.

Kelly's Pool Service was damaged on the store's brick exterior when the driver, who was described as an elderly woman, drove into the front of it. She was taken to Newton Medical Center for cautionary reasons but seemed to be unharmed, said Covington Fire Capt. Steven Middlebrooks. No one else was injured.

Authorities have cleared Kelly's Pool Service to stay open through the repairs on the building.

"This won't affect our business," owner Donna Williams said. "We will be able to stay open and continue operating like normal."

Williams said she spoke to the driver, who told Williams she thought her blood sugar had dropped causing her to lose control of the vehicle; authorities had not completed an official report at that time.

"She was coming around the end of the building after leaving Eye Deal Optical when this happened," Williams said.

The crash happened around 1 p.m., and Williams immediately called 911 after the crash occurred.

"I'm just thankful that no one was hurt and Bangkok Grill wasn't opened otherwise the parking lot would have been full of other people's vehicles," Williams said. Bangkok Grill is closed on Mondays.
