For 30 years Rockdale’s carpets have been kept clean by A Clean and Tidy Carpet Cleaner, located in Conyers.

Originally started as a general cleaning service, the local business has morphed into a carpet cleaner and now prides themselves as fine fabric consultants.

But more importantly for owner Danny Lockhart he sees himself as a customer service representative and hopes to use that mantra to last another 30 years.

"We’ve seen businesses come and go, and we’re still here," Lockhart said. "A lot of it has to do with how we treat our clients, and a lot of it has to do with hiring the right people and training them correctly with exceptional service."

A Clean and Tidy Carpet Cleaner, located on West Ave. in Conyers, provides cleaning of carpet, upholstery, area rugs in their on-site cleaning plant, ceramic tile and grout, blinds and elimination of pet odor. The business is also water damage certified, able to come in on flood damage emergencies.

They provide cleaning services for both business and homeowners, with about 86 percent of their clientele residential.

In fact, some of their residential clients are children or grandchildren of some of Lockhart’s first customers.

"These are people that our original clients have referred us to," Lockhart said. "That’s fun."

Multi-generational clientele is a point of pride for Lockhart and his business, whose mission statement stresses repeat services.

"Our mission statement is, ‘To provide the most outstanding service experience possible, exceeding our client’s expectations each and every time,’" Lockhart said. "It’s not just one time; we have to do it each and every time."

That’s the mantra Lockhart, the 2000 Jerry Barboe Small Business Person of the Year Award winner and the 1999 Sam Walton Business Leader award winner, passes on while teaching at the Chamber of Commerce’s open program.

"There’s another factor to businesses that most businesses fail at, and that is learning how to provide service to the customer and marketing to get the customer," Lockhart said.

The lesson is one that has kept A Clean and Tidy Carpet Cleaner in business, and a familiar part of the community.

"I think there is success in being here for 30 years," Lockhart said. "We tout that we’ve been here for 30 years with the same name and same phone number. We’ve been here for the long haul."
