A suspected trio of burglars fled form a residence Thursday, causing the lockdown of four Newton County schools.
Fairview Elementary, Live Oak Elementary, Clements Middle and Newton High schools went in to lockdown after the burglary was reported at 10 a.m., until the search ended shortly before 2 p.m.
According to Newton County Sheriff's Office Investigator Jeff Alexander one person was taken into custody, and possibly two more ran from the scene. The location of the burglary wasn't made known due to the nature of the ongoing investigation, however it is believed to be somewhere near Fairview Road.
The identity of the suspect in custody was not made available, as the alleged crime is under investigation.
NCSO deputies, Rockdale County deputies and Georgia State Patrol officers were involved in the search, which ended at around 2:35 p.m.
About two or three rifles were recovered from the scene, believed to be dropped during the burglary, according to Alexander.
"There was never any perceived danger to any of the schools in the community," Alexander said.
