The Rockdale County Bulldogs and Salem Seminoles boys varsity basketball teams begin their run through the state tournament today, as the Bulldogs take on Pebblebrook in the opening round while Salem faces off against Stephenson.
The Bulldogs earned the No. 4 seed in Region 2-AAAAA, falling in the region tournament consolation game to Lovejoy.
Rockdale finished with a 10-17 overall record, while Pebblebrook ended its season with a 21-5 record while taking home the Region 4-AAAAAA tournament title.
As the Region 4 No. 1 seed, the Falcons defeated Campbell 63-49 in the tournament semifinal round before downing South Cobb 72-58 in the championship game.
Rockdale will play at Pebblebrook at 6 p.m.
Salem will also hit the road today in its Class AAAAA state tournament opener against Stephenson.
Salem rebounded from a roller-coaster regular season to finish as the No. 3 seed in Region 8-AAAAA, defeating rival Heritage in the opening round of the region tournament. Salem followed up its victory over Heritage with a loss to Appalachee in the region semifinals before defeating Gainesville by 17 in the tournament consolation game.
Stephenson finished second overall in Region 6-AAAAA, falling 60-52 to Miller Grove in the tournament championship game.
The Jaguars finished the regular season with a 16-6 overall record.
Game time against the Jaguars is set for 2 p.m.
