Back-to-School supply drives help families
'Day of Connections' July 19, 'Cover Me' July 26
SchoolSupplies

The Rockdale Coalition for Children and Families and local agencies and volunteers are coming together July 19 to host the annual Day of Connections resource fair. The fair helps hundreds of families-in-need get students ready for going back to school.

Community members, businesses and nonprofits have donated school supplies to be distributed on July 19. Volunteers have sorted and will be on hand to pass out the school supplies.

The Resource Fair lasts 8 a.m. to noon at Rockdale Career Academy, 1064 Culpepper Drive.

Beyond distributing school supplies, the Day of Connections Community Resource Fair informs families in need about resources in the community, gives free health screenings and health education, and connects families with other resources to help them succeed in the coming school year.

Donors can drop off supplies at Rockdale Career Academy from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. until Friday. Supplies needed include backpacks, paper, binders, glue, pens, pencils, crayons, scissors and more.

The supplies will be for Rockdale County Public School students only, and families must bring their proof of residency, a picture ID and the students must be present.

Oakhurst Medical Center in Conyers is giving free immunizations at the resource fair. The first 25-30 students, in grades K-12 will receive free vaccines and boosters. Families are asked to bring their immunization records with them.

Oakhurst is also offering free vision and dental screenings, which are required for students enrolling in Rockdale County Public Schools.
