Rockdale County Board of Education will vote on a 2015-2016 calendar that starts the school year for students on August 3 and ends May 27, 2016.
Option 1 would have started school for students on Thursday, July 30, and ended school Wednesday, May 25, 2016.
An online survey that was posted on the school system website had 481 responses, with about 72 percent choosing Option 2.
Out of the respondents, 239 self identified as parents, 34 as students, 139 as teachers, and 2 as school employees.
Both calendar options both had 180 instructional days for students and 190 days for teaching staff and will end the students' school year before the Memorial Day holiday in 2016. Holidays and intercession weeks would be the same in both options; intercession days (such as fall break, February break, spring break) would be subject to make up any inclement weather days through the year.
The school board will vote on the school year calendar at their Jan. 15 meeting, 7 p.m., held at the board meeting room at 954 North Main Street.
