Athletes head to state track and field championships

The Rockdale Parks and Recreation Southeast Striders Track and Field Club will send 10 young athletes to the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association State track and field championships in Augusta on May 3 and 4.

These athletes placed in the top three in their individual age group events at the GRPA district championships at Monroe High School on April 20.

Track stand-out Jallah Galimah, 13, will lead the Striders in the 800 and 1600 meter runs. Galimah is a multi GRPA Hershey district, state and national champion and holds age group records in both the 800 and 1600 meters for the past 5 years. His best times this season for the 800 was 2:12.97 and in the 1600 4:55.90. He also took first in both at district.

Also having strong performances in the district meet were the following athletes, who will all compete at the state competition in Augusta:

Reece Burton     Age 12    800 meter- 2nd place

Patrick Murray   Age 11    400 meter – 3rd place

Jaylen Banner     Age 12    Softball throw – 1st place

Rebekah Crumbley Age 13   Softball throw- 1st place

Aliyah Williams  Age 11        Standing long jump – 2nd place

Summer Holtz     Age 11           400 meter – 3rd place

Dominique Radney  Age 9        Standing long jump – 2nd place

Sydney Bunkley  Age 9     50 meter and standing long jump- 1st place, 100 meter dash – 3rd place

Cynia Hines         Age 7           50 meter dash – 1st place
