American Legion honors first responders

The American Legion Post 77 in Conyers celebrated the American Legion's 93rd Birthday on March 15 by honoring local first responders, law enforcement, and firefighters.

The Post 77 Firefighter of the Year was Stacy E. Smith of the Rockdale County Fire and Rescue Department; EMT of the Year is Anthony Chamblee; and Law Officer of the Year was M. McClendon of the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office. Guest speaker was past Department Commander Charlie Tucker and Detachment of Georgia Sons of the American Legion Commander Jason Roberts.

Post 77 also announced the local high school students sponsored by Post 77 and chosen to participate in the Boys State leadership course: Jaylen Taylor (RCHS); Lorenzo Jackson, Reed Hill, Christopher York (SHS); Devante Roberts, Jamal Jacobs, Robert Bradley (HHS). The class takes place at Georgia Southern University the first week of June and participants run a mock government for that week. The highest performing participants will be chosen to participate in the Boys Nation course.
