Air Force Academy Band concert canceled

The free concert by the US Air Force Academy Band originally scheduled for March 22 in Conyers has been canceled, due to budget cuts.

Lt. Col. Don Schofield, Commander and Conductor of The United States Air Force Academy Band, said in a written statement, "I'd like to thank the community of Conyers for your understanding and patience as the Air Force Academy Band is forced to cancel all of our national public concerts. The effects of sequestration take a massive toll in many ways on military readiness, including civilian furloughs, reduced flying hours and the ability to support outreach missions across the country."

He continued, "We look forward to the time when the Air Force Academy Band can continue representing the Air Force Academy on a national stage and hope that our travels bring us back to Conyers in the future."

The Conyers Rockdale Council for the Arts and the Heritage High School Band had originally sponsored the free concert that was to be held at the Heritage High School Auditorium.
