We were disappointed that the Greater Rockdale Civic Association, formerly known as the South Rockdale Civic Association, decided to disband last week.
The group started in 1978 and one of its first issues it addressed was a proposed rock quarry in the county.
Since that time, many a local politician felt the sting and/or praise of members of the organization.
Our country was founded by groups like this who gathered to voice their viewpoints.
It is a shame that over the years groups like this and civic groups who were and still are here in Rockdale had to be burdened with carrying liability insurance.
For baby boomers, which many of our readers are, civic awareness and volunteerism was an integral part of our lives. It is a shame that for our many of our young people that time has almost run its course.
