Everyone one enjoys a night out with good food and good wine, and on April 2 there is even more a reason to enjoy those things as Rockdale Special Olympics hosts its second annual Wine Tasting Dinner. The dinner will start at 6 p.m. at the Meadowbrook Club House on 5143 Lake Forest Dr. featuring wines donated by Sigman Bottle Shop and food by Sinful Dish Caterer. The theme for the evening is "Explore the World, One Glass at a Time" and features different tables representing a different country or region, featuring food and wines from that area. The cost for the event is $40 with all proceeds going toward the Rockdale Special Olympics. The money will go toward transportation and uniforms for the some 200 athletes that Rockdale Special Olympics services. The Special Olympics is one of our passions," said Erika Sellers, spokesperson for the Rockdale Special Olympics. "Just to see the athletes perform and do things they normally wouldn’t do, even though it may be small for a normal person, it isn’t for them…is all the thank you we need for volunteering." Parents of the athletes and the people who volunteer at the centers where the athletes stay will be on hand at the dinner, which will also feature a silent auction. Vendors including Cherokee Run Golf Course, Oaks Golf Course, Candies Shoes, Roger Cannon Photography, Conyers Jewelers and others will have items available for auction. Rockdale Special Olympics is hoping to bring in $3,000 to $4,000, besting last year’s total, which was just shy of $3,000. New to this year’s event is sponsorships, in which businesses could donate $100 to $1,200 dollars to be a sponsor and receive tickets and gift baskets.
