First Baptist Church of Covington — this 190-year-old establishment has been in existence since 1823. Located on the Square in downtown Covington, this church is a beacon of hope to the local community.

Providing various auxiliary services to the young and the old, First Baptist would be best described as a cutting-edge progressive ministry. With a membership of 1,200 people, First Baptist has activities for all ages. Known throughout the community for the diverse ministries, they have a roster of events that one can get involved in.

With activities ranging from children’s and adult choir to local and international mission trips, this ministry is always developing new and ground breaking ideas. Recently the ministry just ended an intensive series called “Project Gospel.” This series was geared towrad equipping Christians with sound teaching on scriptures throughout the Bible.

Not only is this church striving to reach the young at heart but there are also ministries in place for the mature and elderly members. On every 2nd and 4th Saturday they have game day where the elderly can come and play games in their fellowship hall. Along with game day, every Tuesday a group of the elderly members go to the local middle and high schools to cook and pray with the youth. In speaking with head worship Pastor Tim Barnes, he states “our ministry is very intentional in ministering to all in every age group.”

Consistently engaging in the community, they also offer events and services throughout the week. One ministry in particular that reaches out to the community is the quilt ministry. This ministry donates a quilt to individuals in the community who have cancer. They have a laundry ministry where once a month you can also see them at local laundry mats offering to help others in need with their laundry. They also have their very own school — First Baptist Academy is accepting students from pre-K to 5th grade.

Holding multiple services on Sunday., at 8:15, 10:30 and 10:45 a.m., First Baptist gives one the option of selecting their personal worship choice. They have a contemporary service held in their fellowship hall, and they have a more traditional service that is held in their main sanctuary. All services are welcomed to anyone who will join.
