Your vote matters

In case you somehow missed it, we’re coming up on an election. It’s not a national one, so we know voter interest isn't at its peak like it was in 2008.

That’s a shame. Local elections like these make as much of a difference to you and me as any election that sends folks to Washington.

The officials we elect next week will be the ones who shape our day-to-day lives in Newton County. They will be the ones who help us grow, shape our path and affect the sort of county our children will grow up in.

It’s very important. So read up on your local elections and be ready to vote. You can read interviews with nearly every candidate on every ballot at www.covnews.com. We’ve got a Q&A with six of our local candidates on Page 3B. Give it a look.

Early voting runs through Friday, so if you already know who you plan to vote for, send in your ballot. If you don’t vote early, vote on Tuesday. It’s your duty as a citizen, and it’s one of the most important things you will do this year.

Just vote.
