In a recent MSNBC “Lean In” commercial, Tulane professor and network commentator Melissa Harris-Perry said this about traditional parenthood:

“We have a private notion of children, your kid is yours and totally your responsibility. We haven’t had a very collective notion of these are our children,” meaning the whole community.

We encourage the fact that the whole community should work together to provide a safe place for children to learn and grow; we don’t accept the fact that all of the children of our community are not the main responsibility of their parents to ensure that they are raised to take advantage of the opportunities a community provides them for their welfare.

It is statements like this one made by Harris-Perry that scare the heck out of most people with good common sense and enforce the notion that many now believe that we are rushing headlong into a socialist type of state.
