Way to go, sarge

We are all grateful for the actions taken by Newton County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Tommy Thompson while he was on patrol last week.

Sgt. Thompson saw a call for an EMS vehicle pop up on his computer saying an infant was in distress. Since he was near the address, he made a decision to see if he could be of help.

That caring and thoughtful moment probably saved the child's life.

Sgt. Thompson realized that the infant had an object stuck in her throat causing her to suffocate. Although it was hard to retrieve, he persisted and because of his persistence a family has been blessed.

We applaud Sgt. Thompson for quick thinking and devotion to duty.
