The gift of books

We are always pleased when any organization takes on a major fund raising goal to help a child.

That is why we are more than pleased with the actions of the Social Circle Rotary Club.

The club, although small in numbers, has made a 100 percent member-participation pledge not to only take money out of their own pockets, but also to raise money from the community to support the Ferst Foundation, which provides a hard back book a month for a child up to age 5 for one year.

This book can be read by parents and grandparents and over and over again by the child.

Jackie Rainwater, president of the Social Circle Club, said that the club - with the help of the proceeds from the Remembering Lewis Grizzard weekend - will be able to send a book a month to 94 children for one year.

We appreciate the members of the Social Circle Rotary and we thank them for being responsible partners in the development of the young people of our community.

For more information or if you would like to contribute, contact any member of the Social Circle Rotary Club.
