Ride for reading, prevention

The folks over at the Newton County Juvenile Court are also community heroes; they recognize that a court dispenses justice but in the case of juveniles it should dispense understanding solutions to that justice, and to that end they are volunteering to help the Ride For Reading bike ride to benefit the Learning Center.

The event will be held this Saturday; registration starts at 9 a.m. at the Ingles parking lot located at the Covington By-pass at U.S. Highway 278. The ride starts at 10 a.m. and ends at Jimbo’s Grill in Porterdale.

The cost is only $25 per bike and $10 per extra rider; you can pre register at leapintobooks.org and receive a $5 discount.

Bring your family, enjoy a smooth ride and help the Learning Center and the Juvenile Court folks help our kids who may have strayed too far off the well worn path of life.

A spokesman for the courts said that the kids they work with are generally 5 years behind their age in reading skills.

The Learning Center does an excellent job in helping to insure that the children of our community learn to read.
