Last Friday a burglary crime spree occurred locally that you usually only see in the movies. The folks who live in the River Walk Farms subdivision, a quiet Newton County community of rolling meadows and beautiful homes, had settled in for what they thought would be a peaceful weekend.
By early evening they were in the midst of a major crime binge — at least eight homes had been or were in the process of being burglarized. Calls were made by rattled residents to the Newton County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies from the sheriff’s department responded en masse and quickly started talking with families and searching roads. As a result of their quick action, three men were apprehended, allegedly with some of the goods.
This is a good start for new Sheriff Ezell Brown; we applaud the sheriff and his department for the quick action in stopping these criminals.
