If you've already stumbled across our new sports Web site, you might have initially thought you accidentally clicked on a site for professional sports. You didn't.

For the past couple of months our Web and sports staff have worked diligently to prepare a comprehensive and interactive resource for athletes and fans of Newton County's prep sports.

Not only does sports.covnews.com have increased multimedia capabilities, but also we will be able to bring you instant updates on scores as games are happening as well as offer a complete schedule of every season's games for all of the three high schools in one place.

A complete basketball schedule for girls and boys has already been added to the site. If you don't know how to get to an away game, simply click on the map feature and print out driving directions to and from whatever game interests you.

Much like covnews.com's community feature, the new sports portal will allow users who register for free to upload their own photos, scores, calendar items, stories and blogs in the FanZone. Because of our small staff we can't cover every game, even though we wish we could. We encourage parents and coaches of middle school teams to use the FanZone to let our readers know whom to watch out for once those athletes reach high school.

Please visit sports.covnews.com today and let us know what you think of the new site. This new feature is for you and the student athletes who call Newton County home. Help us to make it the best it can be and see score alerts in action tonight as the Eastside Eagles take the field at home against the Carrollton Trojans.
