We are fortunate to have civic groups like our local Kiwanis and Rotary in these times of major economic distress.
Recently, the Covington Kiwanis Club raised $6,000 at their inaugural Richard Rawlins Golf Classic. That money was turned back into the community immediately as $3,000 was donated to the Newton County Foundation for Educational Excellence and $3,000 to the Miracle Field fund.
Over the years, the Kiwanis has raised and given out thousands of dollars to help worthwhile groups in our community.
Another civic group that has been one of the major spokes in helping keep the wheel of Newton County nonprofits rolling is the Covington Rotary.
You can help them with their fundraising for the Miracle League fund by supporting the Cars of the Past Car Show, which will be held Sunday on the Covington square.
The admission to view the show is free; entering antique vehicles costs $25. For more information or to register, call Lanier Sims at (404) 787-2852.
To the ladies and gentleman of Kiwanis and Rotary — thanks for all you do to help make our community a better place to live.
