We have often in this space noted how fortunate we are to have the quality of police protection locally that stacks up against any other community in this country.

Last week, two local lawmen, Georgia State Trooper Shane Allen and Covington Police Officer Anthony Walden, were honored by the Covington Rotary for their valor in dealing with a gunman on Interstate 20.

They were the recipients of the club’s Award of Valor for their actions, which are credited with saving the lives of other officers. This award was the highest the officers could receive for heroism in the line of duty.

We are more than proud of officers Allen and Walden; we thank them for going above and beyond and being such selfless heroes for our community.
