There is no question that our city square is as beautiful as you will find anywhere in the country. A testament to that is its use by movie companies through the years. If you had a chance this past Christmas season to go to town to shop at one of our local merchants or to eat at our growing number of restaurants, we are sure you would agree with us. The town square success is due in part to the efforts of a strong Main Street program, the city of Covington, the merchants and people like you who have taken pride in its continued development. Because of the TV and movie notoriety we receive, the downtown square actually attracts a great deal of tourists who leave behind a nice bit of change, which helps the local economy. But there is one addition to downtown that is needed badly, and that is a public restroom. We might suggest to city council as they prepare their budget to include the building of such a facility. We can’t have a first-class tourist and shopping destination without a first-class restroom.
