One of the joys of living in Newton County at Christmas time is the annual presentation of the Arts Association in Newton County’s presentation of "The Nutcracker" as performed by the Covington Regional Ballet.

This event is always a first class affair — something one would expect to see presented in a much larger city. Proceeds from ticket sales not only cover the costs of putting on such a performance, but also offset the costs of other Young Artists programs organized by the Arts Association.

The performance also affords residents a wonderful opportunity to meet their neighbors.

The Nutcracker will be presented at 7 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday at Newton High School.
