They’re doing something right at Newton High School.

Wednesday, 11 Rams football players signed scholarships to play with college teams.

That’s half a team right there. It’s a singular achievement for Newton High.

It’s also a testament to the hard work and devotion of these athlete scholars, to their families for supporting these teens, and to their coaches, especially head coach Cortez Allen.

Congratulations to Akeem Hunt (Perdue signee), D.J. Hill (University of Virginia), Robert Roquemore (University of Memphis), Chris Dickerson, Tarik Dudley, Akeem Hunt, Sammy Merchant and Cadarius Terrel (all signed with Chattahoochee Technical College), Cornelius Hudson (Tusculum College), Devon Mann (Morehouse College) and Deandre Rashada, the Covington News Player of the Year (Alabama State University).

Congratulations also go to Alcovy High School’s Jamaree James, who signed with the University of West Georgia.
